The Blykalla team is growing rapidly, welcomes four new members

The Blykalla team is growing quickly, and this week we are happy to introduce four new members to the team!

Fredrik, Sara, Evelina and Federico - we’re delighted to have you aboard.

Fredrik Dehlin – Nuclear Engineer

Fredrik recently completed his PhD in nuclear engineering at KTH, where his research focused on the design and safety analysis of lead-cooled fast reactors. His doctoral work was supervised by our very own co-founder and CTO Janne Wallenius. Alongside his research, Fredrik has been active in nuclear outreach, teaching, and the Swedish Nuclear Society (SKS).

At Blykalla, Fredrik will work as Reactor Design Lead for SEALER-One, with a focus on neutronic calculations and core design.

“What drew me here was, among many things, the unique opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge reactor development in a fast-moving and collaborative environment. This technology has always been present throughout my education, and I am genuinely enthusiastic to finally get the opportunity to work with it in practice.”

Sara Pelka – Nuclear Engineer

Sara is originally from Poland but moved to the United States at a young age, where she has lived and built her career before relocating to Stockholm.

She holds a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Nuclear Engineering, and started her career in research working with detectors before moving into industry. She has since gained broad experience across several advanced nuclear startups, including Helion Energy, Ultra Safe Nuclear, and most recently Zeno Power. In these roles, Sara focused on advanced shield reactor design and radiation analysis, building a strong expertise at the intersection of engineering and applied research.

At Blykalla Sara will be designing shielding for our small modular reactor and helping the nuclear team analyze material activation, to ensure both safety and regulatory compliance.

“I'm drawn to Blykalla's mission of developing advanced lead-cooled reactors, due to their passive safety features and simplified systems to deliver energy in a compact and modular form. The idea is not only technically impressive but also genuinely exciting! I’m looking forward to working with a passionate, multidisciplinary team and helping build a fossil-free future.”

Evelina Metsalmi - People Operations Partner

Evelina was born and raised in Stockholm and graduated from Uppsala University 6 years ago with a degree in Human Resources. Since then, she has been working as a consultant and had assignments with companies like Swedbank, Viaplay, H&M, Scania, and SJ. Her roles  have been in the HR field, from tech recruiter and HR generalist to project manager and HR system implementation specialist.

At Blykalla Evelina will play a valuable role in supporting our HR team as we continue to expand.

“What I’m really looking forward to at Blykalla is learning more about green nuclear and being part of driving this exciting journey forward. I’m excited to help bring in new colleagues while also supporting the amazing people already here so they can keep doing what they do best!”

Federico Mencarelli – Material Engineer

Federico recently completed his Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. As part of his studies, he spent a year at KTH in Stockholm, where his Master’s thesis focused on the interaction between FeCrAl steel and lead and tellurium.

Although Federico is at the start of his career, he already brings a solid academic foundation, paired with a strong motivation to apply his skills in practice. At Blykalla he will support the materials team with tasks related to corrosion testing, sample preparation, documentation, and analysis of structural materials for lead-cooled nuclear reactors.

“What drew me to Blykalla is the company’s ambition: it is working on something as complex as it is inspiring. It is both an honor and a pleasure to be part of this journey and to contribute in every possible way. I look forward to learning as much as I can from the challenges ahead and from my brilliant colleagues.”
